Frequently Asked Questions

Section 1

We’d suggest creating a space under your sink, approximately 37 cm (h) x 33cm (d) x 12.5 cm (w). Note: The product needs to be in an upright position and not laid on its side so that the label displaying the logo and name ‘Bright Water Filters’ is at the top of the unit, the right way up.

Should I turn off my water supply to my property before installing my water filter or changing any cartridges?

Yes. First, shut the stopcock off and run the taps dry, (Your stopcock is the control tap for your mains water. Please have a towel ready for any residual amounts of while replacing cartridge/s.

An adaptor is needed for connecting your water filter unit. However, we do provide a 15 mm adaptor for when you connect the unit to your existing tap.

We also supply a 15mm Tee-junction for connecting the unit to a 3-way water tap.

The volume of filtered water that can support a family is roughly 5000-6000L of water annually.

Section 2

The wastewater pipe is for flushing all the cartridges to promote longer and better use of the 3-cartridge filtration system. We advise that you let it run for 2 mins per week but don’t worry if you miss one week!

The wastewater pipe is there to simply improve the quality and the life of each cartridge through regular flushing

Yes, the standard psi or bar for a household in the UK can range between 30 and 60 psi or 2-4 bar or 0.2-0.4 MPa. We would normally suggest a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 60 psi or 1-4 bar to operate properly.

You can measure the PSI of your water pressure with a relatively inexpensive water pressure gauge. Below is a quick guide on how to get an accurate reading:

  • Firstly, turn off all the taps/appliances so that there is no running water inside or outside the house. This includes taps, washing machines, dishwashers, sprinkler systems etc
  • If you do not do this, then your measurement will be inaccurate.
  • After that, screw your water pressure gauge onto your outdoor tap, hose end, or appliance connection and hand tighten
  • An outside tap is typically your first test point, as this the outlet closest to the mains water supply
  • Turn on the tap fully. This will force water into the gauge and move the needle.
NOTE: If the pressure is 0.4MPa/60psi/4 Bar or higher, we suggest you install or adjust your pressure reduction valve.

After installation, make sure to dry the immediate area surrounding the machine then turn back on your water supply and observe the product for 5 minutes to check for any leaks where the valves and their connection are loose.

Should it seem that your water pipes in your house are old, use some plumber tape over the threads to hold more firmly.

Section 3

Certain types of filter media can result in a higher TDS reading after the water has been filtered. For example, with a carbon filter, the granulated activated carbon (GAC) coconut shell media tends to flake off, particularly at first use. The tiny, harmless carbon particles would then result in a higher TDS reading. After being properly flushed, the amount of carbon residue will decrease, but carbon filters always tend to result in higher TDS readings. In general, a TDS meter is not a good indicator of how well your water filter is working.

If you’re wondering how to reduce TDS in water, it is important to remember TDS is not an accurate indication of water quality.

In understanding how to remove Total Dissolved Solids in your water , it is important to remember TDS is not linked with adverse health effects. In fact, the main component of TDS is: minerals (such as calcium, potassium, iron etc.). Higher TDS readings often indicate higher levels of the trace minerals in the water which is actually desirable.

The best part about our product is that it is able to filter out the chemicals, disinfectants and heavy metals in ONE STEP but is also able to leave the healthy mineral content of the water.

Our filters are not designed for TDS removal of minerals, such as reverse osmosis or distillation do.

The recent popularity of inexpensive and portable TDS meters has now made testing one’s tap water fairly common practice. However, these devices really don’t tell the whole story, and most people are led to believe that high levels of TDS is bad when in fact, bottled mineral water will have readings in excess of 250ppm!

So if you are testing your water with a TDS meter, know that your readings will vary, and that a TDS reading higher than the tap water is NOT an indication of a faulty filter.

Rest assured that the cloudy substance you may observe in the water supply are simply minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium. Our V-3E ultrafiltration system retains these essential minerals, while preventing limescale forming.

Why does my water appear cloudy after using a new machine or changing my water filter cartridge?

When you start using a new high-end water filter or change the cartridge, it’s normal for the water to look very cloudy and milky. This is because there are tiny air bubbles in the water. If you pour the cloudy water into a clear glass, you’ll see the tiny air bubbles slowly rise to the top of the glass over time, leaving the water clear and clean. It’s perfectly safe to drink this water because the air in it is the same as the air you breathe. Using a fine micron cartridge can make the water even cloudier. When water first flows through the filter cartridge, it pushes the air out, creating thousands of very tiny air bubbles.

Once the filter is fully saturated and free of air, it will stop producing cloudy water. Filters with 25- or 50-micron ratings or low-grade quality may produce less noticeable cloudiness for a shorter time. Depending on usage and water volume, the filter may produce cloudy water for a few days or up to 4 weeks with less frequent use. There is no solution to quickly get rid of the cloudiness, and it may happen again each time the filter cartridge is changed.

If you have a combi boiler then you should have NO issues with your hot water pressure. If you have a traditional hot water cylinder the pressure will be determined by gravity only. You may need a water booster pump.

0.8 bar pressure on the hot water side usually gives enough water pressure for all valve types (Kitchen Mixer Taps).

See table below:

2.0 bar = 60 foot head of pressure – very high pressure|may require pump system
1.5 bar = 45 foot head of pressure – high pressure only.
1.0 bar = 30 foot head of pressure – moderate to high pressure.
0.8 bar = 24 foot head of pressure – moderare pressure.
0.5 bar = 15 foot head of pressure – low pressure.
0.3 bar = 9 foot head of pressure – very low pressure.

Solution:

The higher the tank, the greater the pressure. If possible, consider raising the tank to increase pressure.

Flush the System: Flushing the hot water cylinder and pipes can help remove sediment and mineral buildup, improving water flow and pressure.

Fitting a pump to your gravity-fed system is a really viable solution.
